Family
We are a church family united in Christ, where individuals of all ethnicities and backgrounds are welcomed, known, and loved. Rooted in our shared Orthodox tradition of worship, prayer, and fellowship, we seek to support one another through every season of life. Together, we grow in faith, pass on our traditions to the next generation, and bear one another’s burdens as one body in Christ.
Faith
We are a Greek Orthodox Christian community rooted in the ancient faith of the Apostles, worshiping the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Through the sacramental life of the Church, Holy Scripture, and Holy Tradition, we seek healing, transformation, and communion with God. Guided by the love of Christ, we strive to live the Gospel faithfully in our daily lives and in service to the world.
Fellowship
Our parish is a vibrant and welcoming community made up of people from many nations, cultures, and backgrounds, united by one Orthodox faith. Americans, Greeks, Cypriots, Palestinians, Romanians, Russians, Sudanese, Syrians, Persians, and many others come together as one body in Christ. In our diversity, we bear witness to the universality of the Church and the reconciling love of God that transcends language, culture, and ethnicity.
Welcome
Thank you for visiting the Greek Orthodox Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos’s Web Site. Our parish welcomes people of all backgrounds. Our mission is to be faithful to Our Lord Jesus Christ, who commanded, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19. We are a sacramental and liturgical church under the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta. The Eucharist, the partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, is the focus of Orthodox practice and worship. Holy Communion is offered at every Divine Liturgy. In addition to the holy services, we offer many other opportunities to worship and honor God. These include vespers, matins, and paraklesis services as well as participation in Christian Education programs that we offer throughout the year.
Values
Our Purpose
With God’s blessing and Presence, we desire to share the treasures of the Orthodox Christian faith, making them accessible to the people of Greensboro and surrounding areas, so that together we can experience union with God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever.
Unity
While our unity is in the Orthodox Tradition under the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Metropolis of Atlanta, our strength lies in the Divine Person of Jesus Christ, and our fidelity to the unchanging Faith handed down to us by His Apostles and preserved throughout the centuries around the world by His Holy Orthodox Church.
Community
We understand that spiritual labor is not only individual but also communal. Each member of our community is called to contribute to growing our community through example, skill and culture sharing, leadership, stewardship, mentoring, evangelism and caring for each other.
